The Mariners Canal was officially opened by the Duke of York on 27 July 1989, having been specially built to connect the former No 9 and No 8 Docks (now named as Erie and Ontario Basins).

On the far side of Erie Basin, 116000 sq ft Victoria Building (Now named The Victoria@media city) houses offices. It was completed in 1992.
