taken 10 years ago, near to South Benfleet, Essex, England

Blocked crossing, Hadleigh Park
Blocked crossing, Hadleigh Park
At one time this crossing over the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway was open to walkers to allow them move between Hadleigh Park and the footpath running alongside Benfleet Creek.

Now the walker's gate has a mesh fence preventing access and the notice reads:
"No unauthorised person permitted on these lands unless authorised in writing"
Hadleigh Park :: TQ8086

Hadleigh Park (previously known as "Hadleigh Country Park") is owned by Essex County Council. Extending to 152 hectares (387 acres) it is one of the largest country parks in Essex and comprises an intimate mix of woodland, pasture, hay meadow and marsh with old hedgerows and ponds.

From the information centre in Chapel Road the park runs steeply down a hillside, to grazing marsh, seawall and a narrow strip of saltmarsh alongside Benfleet Creek.

The London, Tilbury and Southend Railway is a railway line linking Fenchurch Street railway station in London with northeast London and the entire length of the northern Thames Gateway area of southern Essex to Shoeburyness. The line has two branches the direct line via Basildon and the longer slower line via Grays and Tilbury. The two lines divide at Barking and Pitsea. The line was opened in 1854.
