Lychgate and nameboard, St Mary's Malpas, Newport
Viewed across the dual carriageway A4051 Malpas Road in January 2016.
When the church Link was built in 1850, this road was a narrow country lane
and Malpas, now a suburb of Newport, was a country farming area
where several industrialists built country houses.

The lychgate was formerly used was to shelter a coffin before
the minister's arrival for the burial, or pre-burial service.
