Wistman's Wood, Dartmoor
Wistman's Wood is the most famous of the upland oak woods on Dartmoor. Once thought to date back to the ancient wildwood that once covered Dartmoor, the oldest trees are only about four to five hundred years old. All the trees are stunted, twisted and covered in moss, lichen and ferns growing between the granite boulder covered ground.
