NZ1452 : Entrance porch at High Stables Farm

Entrance porch at High Stables Farm
This farmhouse stands on the A692 road at the west end of Dipton village. It's the highest point on the road, on the slopes of Pontop Pike, so perhaps the origin of the name. The Stable part derives from the custom of the old lead miners who came here from the dales to buy coal, and stabled their horses overnight at the farm. Rather an elaborate porch for a farmhouse, but it looks original.
