Geograph - photograph every grid square

The bronze statues of two of Liverpool's most iconic characters, Ken Dodd OBE (Link ) and Bessie Braddock MP (Link ) were unveiled in June 2009 on the site of the former Virgin Trains welcome lounge in the main concourse at Lime Street station.

Merseytravel commissioned Liverpool artist Tom Murphy to create the work, which shows the comedy legend and the late politician in a 'Chance Meeting' in the middle of one of the city’s most important gateways. It was unveiled by Ken Dodd on 11 Jun 2009 (Link Liverpool Echo )

Liverpool Lime Street is the largest and oldest railway station in Liverpool, having been opened to the public in August 1836 as the new western terminus of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway Link .

Today, it is a terminus for a branch of the West Coast Main Line from London Euston, as well as TransPennine Express trains and other train services. An urban through underground station on the Wirral Line of the Merseyrail network is accessed via the main terminus.
