The Ringtail Memorial
The Ringtail Memorial
RNAS Burscough/HMS Ringtail LinkExternal link was a busy military establishment commissioned in 1943. When the station closed for flying in 1946 the Royal Navy kept the aerodrome under the status of care and maintenance and used part of it for an engine holding and repair unit.

The memorial (United Kingdom National Inventory of War Memorial ref 54993) was unveiled at the side of the Tollgate Road/Pippin Street Roundabout in October 2004.

An Armistice day ceremony is held at the monument on the 11th of November each year. It was moved to its present location, a Memorial Garden outside Booths café, during expansion of the Ringtail Retail Park when it was deemed that the memorial's original site was no longer safe for the public to gather around. It was re-dedicated in October 2014.
