Church of St Andrew, Hambleton
Church of St Andrew, Hambleton
Parish chest and old weathervane. The chest is of some age, but indeterminate. The weathervane is thought to date from the partial restoration of the 1830s, and was replaced in 1936.
Church of St Andrew, Hambleton
The church consists of nave with north and south aisle, chancel, west tower and south porch. Attached to the north side of the chancel is an organ chamber, and at the end of the north aisle is a vestry.

The core of the church, nave and aisles, dates from the Norman period, around 1100. The tower and porch were added in the early 13th century, in Early English style. In the first half of the 15th century the clerestory was added and new windows inserted in the aisles and the east end of the chancel. The final major construction period was the rebuilding of the chancel in 1892. The vestry was converted to an organ chamber and a new vestry built at the west end of the north aisle. The 15th century east window tracery was incorporated in the rebuilt chancel.

Inside the church are a Norman font and some interesting medieval grave slabs. The furnishings and stained glass are all late 19th century or later.

The church is Listed Grade II*. There is an extremely detailed leaflet available in the church from which the descriptions to my images have been informed.
