Waterloo Place, Crowthorne; the Iron Duke pub
The home of the Duke of Wellington, Stratfield Saye, is not too far from Crowthorne and many of the roads etc in the village have an association with the Duke of Wellington. Hence "Waterloo Place" and "The Iron Duke".
The village is also home to the public school, Wellington College, and it was the establishment of this (with Broadmoor Mental hospital) that precipitated the enlargement of Crowthorne in the mid-late-1800s into a more substantial village or small town as it is today (2007).
