Exe flood relief channel in use
The gates of the flood relief are open during a period of high water on the River Exe at Exwick. The overflow can be seen cascading over the weir into the man made flood relief channel.

The small human watching the water gives some idea of the scale of the operation.
Exe Flood Relief Channel
Work started in 1965 on the construction of the Flood relief channel, it was completed in the 1970's, at a cost of 8 million. The channel is designed to take excess water out of the River Exe.
