The Nationwide is the last occupant of the former Scottish Mutual building at the corner of Donegall Square South and Bedford Street (right). The office is expected to move to here J3374 : Nos 61-63 Donegall Place, Belfast (January 2016) subject to the following application for planning permission “LA04/2016/0341/F New shop front. 55-63 Donegall Place and 5 Donegall Square North Belfast BT1 5DD” – once H Samuel. The proposed Scottish Mutual hotel site, Belfast
An imposing sandstone, turreted structure at the corner of Donegall Square South and Bedford Street, the Scottish Temperance (later Scottish Mutual) Buildings were built in 1904 to a design by Henry Seaver and remain “as built”. It was reported (July 2013) that the intention is to convert the building into a hotel incorporating ground-floor bars and restaurants.
