NS3779 : Edge of Carman hill-fort
taken 10 years ago, near to Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland

Edge of Carman hill-fort
The picture was taken at the southern end of the annexe of the NS3779 : Ancient hill-fort on Carman Hill. The stones making up the fort's boundaries are arranged in lines, but there are generally gaps; many stones have probably ended up further down the slope (compare NS3779 : Slopes of Carman Hill).
Here, unusually, there is a row of stones in a fairly short but unbroken line, without gaps, giving a better impression of how the fort's boundaries might once have looked.

Carman Hill-fort
This large hill-fort — see Link
(at Canmore) — was identified in 1954 from aerial photographs, and is thought to date from the Early Historic period (Dark Ages). See Link for a Geograph article on the fort. See Link
for an annotated satellite view, and Link for other antiquities nearby.
