The sun sets on the Empire
The sun sets on the Empire
Late afternoon sunshine picks out the detail on the rear of Queen Victoria in front of City Hall. For a front view see TA0928 : Vic on the Throne. The statue, in bronze on a Portland stone base, is grade 2 listed (list entry number 1197686) and dates from 1903, sculptor C Fehr. The inscription on this side of the pedestal records that it was unveiled by the Prince of Wales (that would have been Prince George, one of the late Queen's grandsons and later King George V).
