This neatly carved inscription can be found by the inquisitive on a large boulder lost in the wilderness of scrub and bracken known as The Rakes. It reads: ' John Lamb Liverpool 1886'. Quite why a fellow Scouser was wandering up here (with hammer and chisel, too!) is not known. He certainly left his mark in a most elegant way. There is at least one other inscription close by (noted in the Cicerone walking guide by R B Evans) but I know of no record for this particular example.
