Anti-fracking protest, Horse Hill
Anti-fracking protest, Horse Hill
Following discovery in 2015 of significant oil reserves under an area of the Weald Basin in Surrey and East and West Sussex, following a test drilling in Horse Hill (see TQ2543 : Oil exploration site entrance, Horse Hill), further tests have led to some extraction of oil. This has triggered an anti-fracking protest by a group of people camped at the junction of Horse Hill and Reigate Road (seen here) despite assertions by the exploration company that fracking is not permitted at the site because the depth of drilling is insufficient.
