Parliament Square peace campaign at the Tate
The protest camp outside the Houses of Parliament, recorded in this image TQ3079 : Brian Haw's protest camp in Parliament Square, here shown recreated in 2007 inside Tate Britain by the artist Mark Wallinger. Brian Haw has spent 6 years living on the pavement to protest against the government's economic sanctions, and then military action, against Iraq. In 2006 legislation was passed expressly to remove him and subsequently a police raid destroyed the camp. He is now limited to only 3m of public space. He has received worldwide support for his vigil and in 2007 won Channel 4's Most Inspiring Political Figure Award.
