Engineering works at Eden Viaduct
The viaduct carries the West Coast Main Line railway over the River Eden.
Reinforcement of the foundations and piers was needed, to protect the bridge from scour. Materials seen here were used to construct a temporary access causeway across the river.
The work was completed two months before the River Eden went into a major flood in December 2015. Devastation occurred elsewhere, but this viaduct suffered no adverse effects.
