Hinsley Hall, Headingley, Leeds
Hinsley Hall, Headingley, Leeds
Built in 1867 by Wilson & Wilcox of Bath, this imposing hall opened in 1868 as the Headingley Wesleyan Methodist College. The turret holds an hour-striking clock installed at the Wesleyan Theological College in Leeds in 1868 by W Potts & Sons.

The College was used for training Methodist missionaries, who were then dispersed to Fiji, China, Burma and Swaziland among other far-flung places, to spread the Methodist word.

During World War II the College was used to host a WRNS Writer School when it was known as HMS Headingley.

In 1998 the building was fully refurbished and an octagonal chapel added. The College was renamed Hinsley Hall, after Cardinal Hinsley, and is now owned by the Leeds Catholic Diocese as their Pastoral Centre and holds the Leeds Diocesan Archives.

In the grounds is a tiny graveyard for nuns of the Little Sisters of the Poor, a Catholic religious order for women based at Mount St Joseph next door to Hinsley Hall.
