This canalside signpost points the way on the route of the Birmingham Canal New Main Line. To the left to Birmingham and to the right to Wolverhampton. The Birmingham Canal New Main Line, engineered by Thomas Telford, was designed as a
straighter, less wandering canal than the Old Main Line and in the process took a total of seven miles off the route of the earlier canal. Time taken 2.27 pm GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).
