Springbank Pavilion stands next to the former bowling green and was built in the late-nineteenth century to accommodate anglers LinkExternal link when this part of the park had a second lake. After the lake had been filled in to make the bowling green in 1949, the pavilion was used as changing rooms and a club house for the bowlers.

Leazes Park is a park is the Newcastle's oldest park; it was officially opened in December 1873 (LinkExternal link Newcastle University Library). The park lies to the west of the city centre, next to St James' Park football stadium and the Royal Victoria Infirmary. The layout of the park centres on a lake above the course of the Lort Burn.
