Sunderland’s War Memorial stands in Burdon Road, just outside Mowbray Park. The tall moulded plinth has laurel wreaths and upturned torches carved in low relief; and carries the inscriptions:
A TRIBUTE TO OUR GLORIOUS DEAD (west side)
1914 – 1918 (north side)
1939 – 1945 (south side).
The memorial is grade II listed (English Heritage List Entry Number: 1279917 LinkExternal link Heritage Gateway).
