Newby Kipps summit (2)
A closer view of the outcrop that forms the summit inside the small 500m ring contour. Its distinctive pointed top can be seen from the streets of Peebles.

Rocky summits are rare in these hills, and the name 'kipp' or 'kip' refers to a sharp-pointed hill (Scottish Hill and Mountain Names, Peter Drummond, SMT 1991). Not far away across the Tweed are Shieldgreen Kipps and Makeness Kipps.
