Percy Toplis' Bothy
Just to be clear about it, the infamous Toplis didn't own the bothy. He was a notorious murderer and rapist, sometimes known as the 'Monocled Mutineer', and urgently wanted by several police forces. He went to ground here, but smoke from the chimney betrayed the fact that there was someone living in the bothy. Police Constable George Greig and farmer John Grant went to investigate, and Toplis shot and wounded both before escaping on a bicycle.
