The War Memorial is in the form of a stepped granite plinth and tapering pedestal with cornice which supports a full-height bronze figure of a soldier in military uniform with his head bowed over an inverted rifle. The model was a local man, Jack Hamer; the bronze figure was sculpted by B Lloyd & Sons of Rhayader, whose name can be seen at the foot of the sculpture (

The inscription reads:
“In honoured memory of the men of Llandrindod Wells who laid down their lives in the Great War
1914 – 1919
Their name liveth for evermore”
A second inscription was added after World War II:
“And to those who gave their lives in the 2nd World War, 1930 – 1945”
The memorial is situated in a small memorial garden between the Metropole Hotel and the museum. It is grade II-listed (Cadw Building ID: 9063
