NY4055 : Wall at the back of Carlisle Railway Station
taken 8 years ago, near to Carlisle, Cumbria, England
Wall at the back of Carlisle Railway Station
This wall was put up when the Citadel Station was extended, circa 1880. It supported an overall roof, attached to the front of the station. The extent of the roof can be seen in an aerial photo taken in 1928
Link . Maintaining the glazed structure in a safe condition became a problem so the roof's area was reduced in the 1950s, leaving the top of this wall freestanding. Canopies were erected on the outer platforms to provide shelter - see recent photo taken from inside the station
NY4055 : Carlisle Class 57 'Thunderbird' .
The wall is a Grade II listed building
