The two silver domes of the recently constructed plant at Egmere seen across a crop field. Anaerobic digestion is described as being a process utilising harmless natural bacteria to digest biomass (food waste, crops or slurry). In the absence of oxygen, soluble organic compounds present in the biomass are converted to biogas. This process is performed in sealed tanks.
