The statue in the foreground is just about on the edge of the water. The statue in the distance is uncovered almost as much which gives an indication of how flat this beach is and why the tide comes in, and leaves, so quickly.
Another Place

Another Place is a piece of modern sculpture by Sir Antony Gormley. It consists of 100 cast iron cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along a 2 mile (3.2 km) stretch of the Crosby foreshore between Waterloo and Blundellsands, and stretching almost one kilometre out to sea.

The spectacular Another Place figures each weigh 650 kilos and stand 189 cm (over 6 feet) tall. In common with most of Gormley's work, the figures are cast replicas of his own body. They are positioned standing on the beach, all of them staring enigmatically out to sea, gazing at the horizon in silent expectation whilst being increasingly submerged and revealed by the sea as the tides ebb and flow. To see them all together makes an impressive sight.

Having previously been seen in Cuxhaven in Germany, Stavanger in Norway and De Panne in Belgium, the initial plan was for the work to keep moving to different sites but 'Another Place' has now been a permanent feature at Crosby Beach since its arrival in 2005 (LinkExternal link BBC News). The statues are now owned and managed by Sefton Council.
