Alt Estuary, Brick Beach
Much of the shoreline to the north of Crosby is characterised by tons of rubble on the beach. This rubble ranges from house bricks to huge granite and marble lintels and arches, reinforced concrete and all sorts of other material which dates from the wartime Blitz through to 1970s slum clearance and was dumped on the beach to try and prevent erosion. Some of it seems very fresh, while other pieces have been worn smooth by the waves over the years. In particular, many of the bricks have become worn smooth by the tides and now resemble large red pebbles.
