View towards Vereley Hill from Smugglers' Road, Vales Moor, New Forest
This gravel path leads down into Broad Bottom, crosses the valley mire via a causeway, then ascends Vereley Hill on the far side. The Vereley mast can be seen on the hill, amongst the trees. There are stories that back in the times of smuggling, a local woman called Lovey Warne would stand on Vereley Hill wearing her red cloak as a warning signal to the smugglers that the customs men were about.
