NY8842 : Fence line above Middlehope Head

taken 9 years ago, 3 km from Allenheads, Northumberland, England

Fence line above Middlehope Head
Fence line above Middlehope Head
The fence follows the broad, boggy moorland ridge separating the valleys Middle Hope and Rook Hope; Rook Hope is to the right. The fence post at the left edge of the image is the first in the fence line; before that the barrier is a dry stone wall. Why the change from wall to fence? Probably the boggier ground ahead would have been insufficiently firm to carry the weight of a wall.
