Twelve Apostles stone circle, Burley Moor
Twelve Apostles stone circle, Burley Moor
Often thought to be on Ilkley Moor (of "bah t'at" fame), this is in fact on Burley Moor which does not have an irritating song about it. The stones had all fallen over by the mid 20th Century but have since been re-erected. Originally there were up to 20 stones here, set in an earth bank; now there are 12 and the earth bank has been eroded away by countless visitors. This is regarded as one of the most damaged prehistoric sites in West Yorkshire, although it hasn't changed much in the seventeen years since Hugh Chappell took SE1245 : The Twelve Apostles - Ilkley Moor.
