The water in these pipes originate from the Blackwater Reservoir where a conduit and aqueduct brings the water to the Lower Penstock Valve Station.
From there these 6 huge pipes plunge over 1,000 ft. towards Kinlochleven to create hydroelectricity.
Originally constructed to power the now closed aluminium works, the electricity generated goes into the National Grid.
A little maintenance is required on this aging piece of infrastructure, as fountains of water erupt in several places along the seams and rivets along the line.
