The Blackstone chair, University of Glasgow museum
This chair is in the Hunterian Museum in the main University building. It was made in 1775 and contains the Black Stone. From the foundation of the university in 1451 students sat on the Black Stone for oral examinations. The spray of bay leaves on top of the chair surrounds a 20-minute time-glass, turned over by he bedel as the examination began. When the sand ran out the bedel shouted "Fluxit" (it has flowed) and grounded the mace. The chair is still used for honorary graduations, and one classics exam.
