View south down Clayton Street, Newcastle
This street forms the western side of what is now known as "Grainger Town", the Victorian heart of Newcastle. Grainger was the builder, assisted by Clayton, the Town Clerk, and John Dobson, the architect. The collection of streets they built, like this one, have given Newcastle one of the best examples of a Victorian city centre in Britain.
