NT8650 : Whitsome's Old Village Hall

taken 9 years ago, near to Whitsome, Scottish Borders, Scotland

Whitsome's Old Village Hall
Whitsome's Old Village Hall
The old village hall at Whitsome adjacent to R L Smith & Sons just beyond the eastern periphery of the village.

The hall was apparently a former PoW accommodation building at RAF Milfield in Northumberland, dismantled and re-erected at this site in the 1950s. Following an ice storm, there was damage to the heating which had to be removed thereby hastening the demise of the building. It was up for sale for in the region of £50,000 a few years ago having been used as a joiner's workshop. The estate agent particulars noted the dimensions of the various rooms thus: entrance vestibule 2.43m x 2.48m, main hall 5.67m x 16.46m, office 5.66m x 2.50m and kitchen 4.56m x 2.50m.

Demolition of the building commenced on 2 June, several days after this photograph was taken.
