It is one of the four remaining former dock warehouses on the town docks’ estate, the others being:
• Warehouse No. 6, Prince’s Dock
• Warehouse No. 8, former Queen’s Dock, now fronting Guildhall Road: The Hooper Building, a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly building, refurbished and re-opened in October 2007
• Warehouse No. 9, former Queen’s Dock, now fronting Guildhall Road: formerly Hull Business Centre, which has been operated by the City Council since the 1980s
Built in 1927 by Goole Shipbuilding & Repairing Co. Ltd. as Ship No.275, the Spurn Lightship (official name ‘Light Vessel No.12, Spurn') served as a navigation aid until 1975. During that time, the lightship also formed part of the city's naval river defence boom of World War II. In 1983, Kingston upon Hull City Council bought the lightship for restoration before being moved to Hull Marina as a museum in 1987. Having undergone refurbishment, the vessel was re-berthed in Humber Dock, close to Murdoch's Connection (Castle Street footbridge) on 2 February 2024.
