Provided water for steam locomotives working on the North Kerry Line of the Great Southern Railway. The line was opened in 1880 by the Limerick and Kerry Railway, eventually becoming part of CIE in 1945. It was closed to passengers in 1963. Much of the trackbed in County Limerick has been converted into the Great Southern trail a long distance footpath/cycle route.
