SK3587 : Herd of Sheffield: Heard Sheffield
taken 8 years ago, near to Sheffield, England
In the summer of 2016 58 elephant sculptures, each uniquely decorated by local artists, descended on Sheffield’s parks and open spaces, creating one of the biggest mass participation arts events the city had ever seen.
The trail of elephants celebrated Sheffield’s creativity with over 75% of artists from the city. Some well-known names include Pete McKee, James Green, Jonathan Wilkinson and Lydia Monks: each artist put their own creative mark on a 1.6m tall fiberglass elephant sculpture.
Each elephant was sponsored by a local business and the project raised funds for the Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity through this sponsorship and public donations.
As well as the large elephants visit there were 72 little calf elephants put on display in indoor venues. The Little Herd have been designed by local school children and teachers
