NS4673 : The Geils Memorial

The Geils Memorial
Although I had already photographed the site, the memorials themselves had not then been visible: see NS4673 : The Geils Memorial. At that time, the best view was from the back: see NS4673 : The Geils Memorial, which provides much more information.
Now that the enclosure has been cleared, a smaller stone can be seen on the right. Its inscription is a continuation of the one on the larger memorial, and reads "also their eighth son Capt Andrew Alexander Geils, Madrass Fusiliers, born 26th April 1820, died 4th March 1854, at Tongoo in Burmah from a musket wound in action [FLAKED OFF] [l]eading on his men".
The text then breaks off, because the lower half of the stone has also flaked away; the published Monumental Inscriptions (pre-1855) for West Dunbartonshire give the names and dates that are now missing; I don't need to reproduce them here. Tongoo is now called Taungoo.

Old Kilpatrick Parish Church
The church was built in 1812 on more or less the same spot as its predecessor (the latter was a pre-Reformation church; it was of great age, although the precise period in which it was built is unknown).
