Ringstead Bay c.1970
An historic photo of Ringstead Bay with in the distance the twin parabolic aerials of the US Airforce Tropospheric Scatter radio-relay link to Spain. The system at Ringstead was operated by the USAF No. 6 Detachment, 2180 Communications Squadron from Dec 1963 to 1974, with the two massive aerial arrays dismantled by March 1975. The wartime Chain Home radar station of RAF Ringstead operated on the site from Jan 1941, and continued in service after the war as a "Rotor Radar" station until 1956.
