St Leonard's junction under construction, Morpeth Northern Bypass
Looking north towards the construction site of the new St Leonard's junction where the Morpeth Northern Bypass will join the A1 and become the main junction for traffic switching between roads to the north of Morpeth.
The current phase of construction seems to involve traffic being rerouted along the newly built slip roads whilst the main carriageway of the A1 is being dug up to create the road connecting the slip roads on either side of the main road. I assume the roads currently being used by traffic will be the finished slip roads when the route eventually is completed.
"Spittal(sic) Hill House occupies the site of a Hospital of St Leonard, founded by Sir William Bertram (C12), the founder of Brinkburn Priory" [Murray's Handbook:1890].
