Southampton, South Western House
South Western House is a grade II listed building (Historic England List Entry Number: 1302385 LinkExternal link Heritage Gateway).

Completed in 1872, this was originally the South Western Hotel, promoted by the London and South Western Railway for the accommodation of liner passengers. Originally the hotel was built over the ends of the railway lines, so that passengers could alight the train on platforms that came right into the hotel LinkExternal link .

It continued as a hotel until WW2, after which it never reopened as a hotel but was converted into offices and occupied by departments of British Railways, and governments sections, before the shipping line Cunard created an office complex there. The BBC used the building from 1961 until 1991, after which the building fell into some disrepair until being converted into apartments in 1998.
