From Percy Pilcher, through Fred Slingsby, to Geoffrey de Havilland. Three historic aircraft seen from the upper balcony of the gallery.
National Museum of Scotland 2016

The museum reopened in July after a major refurbishment. Part of that involved the Science and Technology Galleries, with balconies on three floors overlooking a central space, now occupied by historic aircraft from the Museum of Flight's collection at East Fortune. From the highest [and oldest] are Pilcher's Hawk [1897]; Slingsby T-12 Gull glider [G-ALPA, 1939-40]; De Havilland Tiger Moth G-AEOL [1930s], originally RAF N9510 until it became a civil aircraft in 1955; Beagle Auster A.61 Terrier [G-ARSL, 1960s]; and a Piper PA-38 Tomahawk [G-BGXB, 1979].
