Peterborough's bridges [3]
Peterborough's bridges [3]
In this image, it seems that there is one bridge carrying the railway (East Coast Main Line) over the River Nene. There are actually two bridges side by side. The nearer one was erected in 1850 and is believed to be the last cast iron bridge on a major high speed route. See TL1998 : Peterborough's bridges [5]. The bridge is listed, grade II*, with details at: LinkExternal link The steel girder bridge in the background was erected in 1924. See TL1998 : Peterborough's bridges [6].
