From directly underneath it can be seen that two bridges sit side by side carrying the railway (East Coast Main Line) over the River Nene. The one on the left was erected in 1850 and is believed to be the last cast iron bridge on a major high speed route. See TL1998 : Peterborough's bridges [5].
