Scott-Wilson Centenary Memorial
Scott-Wilson Centenary Memorial
Replaced an earlier cairn in 2012 - the centenary of the ill-fated end to their Terranova Antarctic Expedition. The new memorial features full-length relief sculptures of Scott and Wilson in Arctic gear, with their ponies and dogs; and on the other side a penguin and chick. Dr Wilson was an ornithologist who studied grouse here in Glen Prosen, where he was visited by Scott before being invited to join the Terranova Expedition to the South Pole. At the foot of the monument is a map of the route taken from the Terraova to the Pole by Scott's party. They died in a prolonged storm only a few days short of returning to base camp.
