St Mary, Elland: font
St Mary, Elland: font
The stone font dates from 1662, and could therefore be said to be symbolic not only of the spiritual rebirth of individual Christians but of the Church in England.
St Mary the Virgin, Elland

An ancient parish church towards the lower end of the present town centre, and overlooking the Calder valley. It is thought that the same masons who built Kirkstall Abbey in 1170 built the first church in Elland circa 1180, although most of the present building is 15th century. It is notable in particular for its medieval east window, the building is grade 1 listed (list entry 1184393).
