ALWAYS Arthur. L/Cpl 127580 42nd Canadian Infantry (Quebec Regt) died 31/10/1917 age 22. Son of George and Annie of Marlwood Lodge, Thornbury, Native of Alveston. Commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial Belgium.
BIDDLE Herbert George Private 5298, 10th Prince of Wales Own Royal Hussars, died of wounds 1.6.1915 age 28. Born in Rudgeway, Bristol. Commemorated at Vlamertinghe Military Cemetery Belgium.
CLEMENTS Charles. Private 17068, 6th South Wales Borderers killed in action 20th February 1916 Born at Newport, enlisted at Aberbeeg both in Monmouthshire and buried at Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension Nord France.
CLOUGH Ernest Rowan Butler. 2nd Lt, 1st Devonshire Regt attached to 11th Bn, Durham Light Infantry died 27/6/1916 age 22. Son of Alfred Herrick Butler Clouch C.B.,M.V.O and Gertrude Matilda, 24 Royal York Crescent, Clifton, Bristol. (Wills and Admin, Ancestry) “Clough Ernest Rowan Butler of The Grange Alveston Gloucestershire 2nd lieutenant Devonshire regiment attached 11th (service) battalion Durham Light Infantry died 27 June 1916 in France of Belgium of wounds received in action Administration London 3 October to Alfred Herrick Butler Clough colonel His Majesty’s Army C.B. M.V.O. Effects £154 14s 3d”. Commemorated at Brandhoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
CURTIS Edward. Private 10562, 7th Gloucestershire Regiment died of wounds in Mesopotamia 19th April 1916 Son of George and Elizabeth of Alveston. Born at Alveston, and is buried at Amara War Cemetery.
CURTIS William. Private 24291, Welsh Regt attached to 254th Coy, Royal Engineers. Died 8/4/1917 age 20. Son of Georgina Curtis of Rock House, Alveston. Commemorated at Bethune Town Cemetery, France.
FELTHAM Fred Charles. Private 266280 2/6th Gloucestershire Regt died 19/7/1916 age 24. Son of Charles & E of Lower Hazel, Rudgeway, Bristol. Commemorated at Loos Memorial, France.

JONES William George. Sapper 139049 180th Tunnelling Coy Royal Engineers. Formerly 18538 South Wales Borderers died 26/9/1916 age 26. Son of Mrs Mary Ann, of Alveston Down, Bristol brother of Frederick Samuel killed 1918. Commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.

His brothers Pilot Officer John Saunders and David Usher, D.F.C also died on service. Commemorated at Runnymede Memorial Surrey. His father was killed in a flying accident over Whitchurch, Somerset, 2nd August 1938.

Awarded The King’s Medal, R.A.F., College Cranwell 1939. His father was killed in a flying accident over Whitchurch, Somerset, 2nd August 1938.
