The George and Pilgrim Hotel, High Street, Glastonbury
The George and Pilgrim, dating from around 1475, was the hospice for pilgrims visiting the shrines in Glastonbury Abbey in the late 15th Century and is 'among the most sumptuous of pre-Reformation English inns' (Pevsner) and is Grade-I listed: LinkExternal link . Next door is the former Lloyds Bank (originally the Wiltshire and Dorset Bank) from 1884, which pays tribute to its neighbour. Although it is heaving with tourists for most of the year, Glastonbury astonishingly no longer has any banks, as HSBC, Barclays and Lloyds all closed their branches within a few weeks of each other in early 2016: LinkExternal link .
