Roman Lakes Leisure Park
The Roman Lakes have no connection to the Romans at all, the name was dreamed up over 100 years ago by the men who opened this former mill pool as a boating lake. In the first part of the 20th century the lake was very popular for picnicking, boating and fishing, I remember fishing trips during the summer holidays in the 1960s, lads would stand shoulder to shoulder around the lake catching lots of small Roach with cheese bought from the cafe. Although not quite as busy these days many people still visit the cafe and lake.
